Top 10 European countries with Wind Power Generation in February 2022
Due to the complementary system of wind and solar energy, wind power generation in various European countries approached their annual peak levels in February.
In February 2022, the top 10 countries in Europe had a total wind power generation of 44.8 kGWh, an increase of 15.5% month on month, accounting for 88.9% of the total wind power generation in Europe that month.
In February, wind power generation in Germany reached its annual peak of 20.6 TWh (1 TWh=1000 GWh), breaking through 20 TWh for the first time, accounting for 77% of renewable energy generation in Germany and 40.9% of wind power generation in Europe that month, surpassing the sum of wind power generation ranked 2-5.
However, wind power in Germany did not start early. It was only in 1983 that Germany began operating its first large-scale wind power equipment, the "Grovian", in the Kaiser Wilhelm Koog area of the North Sea. However, due to technical structural errors, the equipment was completely shut down and dismantled five years later. It was not until 2010 that Germany's first truly offshore wind farm, Alpha Ventus, was put into operation.
The gap is not obvious among the nine countries after Germany, with France ranking second and Spain third with wind power generation of 4.6 TWh and 4.4 TWh, respectively. Other countries such as Sweden, Poland, and Denmark are all within the range of 1TWh to 4TWh.
