Top 10 European Hydroenergy Generation in March 2022
If Russia were to be classified as Europe, it would surpass Norway and become the number one hydroelectric power country in Europe.
According to data from Chaodian, in March 2022, the top 10 countries in Europe had a total electricity generation of 54.8 TWh (1 TWh=1000 GWh), with the top 10 countries accounting for 82.6% of the total electricity generation in Europe that month.
In March 2022, Russia generated 15.9 TWh of hydroelectric power generation, accounting for 25.0% of Europe's hydroelectric power generation that month.
Russia has abundant hydraulic resources and currently ranks among the top in the world in terms of hydroelectric power generation. If domestic hydraulic resources are fully utilized, its power generation has the potential to double again. Not only can it supply power to its European power grid, but it can also be exported to countries in Northeast Asia.
Therefore, in early 2016, the Russian Energy Strategy Research Institute formulated the "Plan for the Development of Hydroower in Russia before 2030 and the Prospects to 2050". According to the plan, the most promising hydroelectric facilities in the Far East region of Russia will be located in the tributaries of the Lena and Amur rivers.
Norway, in narrowly speaking, is the first country in Europe to generate hydroelectric power. In March, its hydroenergy power output was 13.1TWh, with over 90% of its domestic electricity supply coming from hydroelectric power.
The third is Türkiye's 8.1TWh, up 237% month on month in February, surpassing France's third ranking last month. And ahead of France, there is Sweden's 6.1TWh in fourth place, with France ranking fifth with 3.8TWh this month.
